Devlog7: Production Sprint 2, Week 2


Welcome back everyone, it's been 3 weeks since our last post due to the easter holidays

Like previous time we will start again with our programmer.

MINE:

We now have a mine, that spawns with the flow that on impact explodes and everything in a radius destroys.

TOXIC CLOUD UPDATE:

We did a major change to involving the toxic cloud, instead of a specific area, now there will be on spawning after a certain amount of time on a random position in on of the streams.

UPGRADE STATION (UPGRADE):

Our programmer started to add the system to show us the possible upgrades. But due to using blueprints for a lot of stuff it was hard to do what we wanted and he spent way to much time then expected, right now we have a system that is ready for all the upgrades, but still needs some changed like, being able to change the different score thresholds and only being able to upgrade when in the station.

ENGINE UPGRADE I:

With the upgrade station we also have our first upgrade, with the way the upgrades are build, it is now easier to make more. When you upgrade, different parts of the ship will change according to the upgrade.

SHOW VALUE:

Now we show also the score on the closest scrap, scrap can have different values, and this will put players in a position where they can chose.


Next week:

Next week is the last week of production sprint 2 and the last week new stuff is alowed to be added.

Here is a list of what we will try to achieve:

  • startscreen, scoreboard, naming
  • endscreen, score, scoreboard
  • saving
  • all planned upgrades
  • (Trail Asteroid, boss type asteroid that follows you)

Hello! we have been hard at work, this is what we have!

Effects

Wouter has added a lot of rfx to the game, with lots more to come. We have our engine RFX that has a constant slow burn and a trail it leaves behind, aswell as an active flame with sparks that burns when you move the ship.

 

our laser also has a new look. it has grown a little longer, and also leaves sparks when it hits something. 

We also added an explosion effect when scrap gets destroyed by the pulse laser. 

a less dramatic breaking effect for when it breaks up into smaller scrap is on the way, and will look like a watered down version of this. an RFX for when you bump into stuff has also been made, but is not yet implemented in the current version of the game.

Texturing and sound

Thijs has also been hard at work texturing the upgrade modules and making sound effects for the game with Niels for example the laser and ambient space sound!

Meshes and model

Niels has finished his mine mesh and almost finished his scrapped station that will be floating destroyed in space.

Alex did a rework of the planets, jupiter for example has now animation and atmospheres that have different colors.

Alex also started work on the UI and how they will fit together!

That will be it for the artists.
